Frequently asked questions

Why use WebP for a website?

WebP images are usually 25 to 35 percent smaller than JPG at the same quality, so pages with them load faster.

Which browsers can make WebP files?

Chrome, Edge and Firefox can. Safari can open WebP but can’t save it, so on Safari choose PNG or JPG instead.

Can I make the files even smaller?

Yes. Pick “Low (smaller files)” for the quality, or a lower resolution such as 72 DPI for thumbnails.

Can I convert only some pages?

Yes. Under “More options”, enter the pages you want, for example 1, 4-6.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. This tool runs entirely in your browser, so your files stay on your device and are never sent anywhere. It even works with the internet switched off.
