Frequently asked questions

What does OCR do?

Optical character recognition finds the letters in a picture of a page and turns them into real text you can search, select and copy.

Which languages can it read?

English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian and Hindi. English is ready offline; other languages download the first time you choose them.

Can I select text before making a new file?

Yes. Turn on “Select text” above the page. The page is read on your device and you can drag to select, double-click a word or copy all its text. Pages read there are reused when you press “Recognize text”.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. This tool runs entirely in your browser, so your files stay on your device and are never sent anywhere. It even works with the internet switched off.

Can I use it without an internet connection?

Yes. After your first visit the app is saved in your browser, so this tool keeps working offline. You can also install it from the browser menu to open it like an app.
